As I create more and more of these I definitely see a trend. The best MLS players are in the west. That might be a misnomer though because most of the MLS teams are west of the Mississippi River. This card came out looking a bit plain in my mind. I wanted to add a third color like I do in many of my cards in this set but thanks to the green white primary colors of the team, I was very limited as to my options as far as the pennant color and the team name color.
Originally I was going to make the pennant color white with green wording but, I thought it just made the card look incomplete. So I went with the green with white writing even though it matches the team name color. It’s the best I could do with this team. If you can think of another color I could use that would also associate with the team I am all ears. I would like to change it a little before I turn it into a card.
So the set is really coming along beautifully. This was my first Real Salt Lake player. What is strange about this card is the putting of the team name in the yellow area. I mean what do you call a Real Salt Lake player? I suppose I haven’t been watching soccer long enough to know. There are a few times like this that I have run across. Teams like FC Dallas, Sporting KC, and Chivas USA just to name a few.
Still the card is sharp and I do love the colors of the uniform and how they go well with the card. I will be printing this one one out shortly, hopefully tonight if all goes well. For a TTM send out later this week.
I decided to separate the Score rookie set from the Archive set. I’ve always loved rookie sets as stand alone. This is a tougher card to make because there is just not a lot of his photos out there in a FC Dallas jersey. He is a home grown talent. Grew up in Colorado, went to Colorado School of Mines and became the first Division II player selected in the first round of the 2014 MLS Super Draft (6th pick). He has immediately paid dividends in his first 9 games in which he’s started he has 3 goals. He is going to have a great future with FC Dallas. What are your thoughts?
I love how this card came out. I am still trying to figure out what colors to use in the background. I was going to use a light yellow but with that photo, it would wash out with his pale complexion. I was going to make his name blue and yellow, but again, it would washout on the background of the card.
As for Keane, he has been an international superstar for years. Now he is just killing it in the MLS. 42 goals in three years is fantastic and he seems to get better with age. What do you think about Keane and the card?
This one is one of my personal autographs that was a cut plain index card. I decided that the Mystery Cuts template was the best to use. So I recreated it, with some of my own spin. Obviously the card is not an Upper Deck card but because the printing is so sharp you would have a tough time knowing that. This is not a for sale kind of thing, this is just something I did for my personal collection so that I could encapsulate the cut autograph.
When I was a kid, my dad used to tell me stories about Bell and how obscenely fast he was. I am sure he was quick, but probably not as quick as my dad says. Decided a few years ago that I would like to get a cut autograph of him. This one was purchased off eBay and came with a PSA/DNA certificate. Cost wise it was about $25 I believe and I was thrilled to make it into a cut autograph card. Unfortunately I don’t have this template anymore, it was on a thumb drive that got destroyed in an unfortunate accident. At some point I am going to remake this template because it is one of my all time favorites.
