I am playing around with this idea for the next part of the set. It is kind of plain, but then again so was the 1977 set. The fonts are tough though. Especially the block letters on top. There was a fair amount of scaling. I wanted to definitely use the team colors of the Rapids. I thought it was a nice twist. I am curious to see what you think. Like I said this is just a prototype. I am going to play around with it more. I especially don’t like the name font, but I can’t think of one that would work well.
When I first started following MLS, I really liked Wondo! The guy can flat out score and it doesn’t matter when and where. This year his numbers are a bit down but he had more important things to worry about such as the World Cup. Some of the difficulties I have making this card surround his last name. How I had to shrink it then elongate it. Also tough on the back squeezing Earthquakes in the team name. In the record area I had to shorten it to “Quakes” just because there was just no way to fit it in. To top it off Wondo has had a long career and the 5 lines of stats I reserved was just not going to cut it so I had to limit it to just the 5 past years. I’ve also been going back and forth on whether or not to include 2014. Since the first 2 cards include it I decided to stick with it. I would love some of your thoughts on this.
Card number two is Andre Blake. The former UConn great was the first overall selection of the 2014 MLS Superdraft. He was also the first goaltender taken first overall in the MLS draft. He is quite a talent and will make the Union a much better team then they currently are. Right now he is the goalie of the future. He has not played this season yet.
Hey all chemgod is back! Bad Wax is dead, I just got board writing it. So now I can create whatever custom set I want to. I can update the blog whenever I want to and I’m doing this for me instead of trying to give out news and advise. I’ve decided one custom set I am going to work on is a soccer archives set using old football (American) and baseball designs. The first few are going to be 1985 Topps football. I think the first 10 will be in that design.
Number one is Clint Dempsey the hero of the US Mens World Cup National Team. I figured it was only fitting that he be number one. Clint has done the whole MLS to Europe thing and is now back in the US playing for the Sounders of the MLS. He is currently the #1 ranked player in the MLS. This set will also be a through the mail set where I will send away for autographs. I couldn’t find a home address so this one is going to Sounders HQ in Washington state.
